After working within the animation and design industry Mark has forged a career in fine art. His work is inspired by many things ranging from nature, science, the influence of time and the notion of how everything has a connection within the universe.

Using abstraction and minimalism, Charlton's work proposes a narrative through abstract compositions that are not planned but encountered through an organic process of discovery.

Reminiscent of unearthed fragments left cold and silent, the artist's work is meant to be experienced as individual objects and images with their own sensual physicality and presence. The artist searches for a stillness within the work that serve as platforms for contemplation and reflection.

An endless love of the exploration of materials results in a continuous change of how the work is presented in its final state but beneath each piece lays a familiar process. A journey of layering and weathering over a period of time produces unplanned beauty in the decay of the surface before a final harmony and balance is realised.

Mark was born In Margate in 1976 and currently resides and works in Shoreham-By-Sea, United Kingdom.
